Making a money on eBay is easy. However, making a living on eBay is extremely difficult and it’s going to take some time and patience to learn the correct strategies, what to sell and when to sell it.

Instead of following the crowd and trying to sell the sexy items such as electronics. You know, iPods, and Xbox 360’s. You really need to do some research to find out other niche ideas available in the marketplace. Believe it or not, there’s some gems out there that simply need to be discovered.

4 Simple Steps To Follow

1. Go to eBay pulse to find out what’s hot and already selling well on eBay. Delve and drill down into each category to find a niche item that doesn’t sell in spades but where the customers buying them already have there credit cards out.

2. To find out if they have their credit cards out. Click on one of the categories and click a link on the left hand panel marked “completed listings”. You’ll need to be signed into eBay to use this function.

3. Once your results come up. Anything sold will listed with a green price and anything that didn’t sell will be marked with a red price. Obviously if you see a lot of green prices, you can rest assured this is a great niche market where you’ve also got a decent amount of buyers.

4. At this point decide whether or not you want to enter this market. if you do, then the next step is to purchase this items from one of the sellers that sells quite a lot of this particular item.

The Reverse Reconnaissance Method

The purpose of purchasing one of these items is a system I like to call “the reverse reconnaissance method”. In essence you’re trying to find out which delivery company was used, how and what it was packaged in. Make notes of where the item came from. The information is Intel gold. If the sellers been lazy they won’t even bother to repack this item into other packaging. They’ll more likely ship it in its original packaging.

Why Reinvent The Wheel?

You can now use this information to obtain your products from the same place, use the same delivery company etc etc. This seller would have tested everything from the best wholesale source of this product to the most efficient delivery company to use. Why reinvent the wheel?

Find out how you can dominate markets and align yourself with other Powersellers on eBay.

I must admit, this subject has always fascinated me. Like the majority of people out there, my time is short and my attention span even shorter, especially when I have a gazillion things left to do.

“On the average Web page, users have time to read at most 28% of the words during an average visit; 20% is more likely” - Source http://www.useit.com/alertbox/percent-text-read.html

This is quite an interesting statistic and I know it’s true from the stats of my ebay listings.

“Among other things, the authors found that the Back button is now only the 3rd most-used featureBack to become the second-most used feature. The reason for this change is the increased prevalence of applications and feature-rich Web pages that require users to click page buttons to access their functionality on the Web. Clicking hypertext links remains the most-used feature, but clicking buttons (on the page) has now overtaken” - Source http://www.useit.com/alertbox/percent-text-read.html

What I’ve also found is that the time people spend on different listings with lots of text, audio, video, useful info varies a great deal. In fact my most important discovery is that my visitors spend up to three times as long on my auction pages if I provide short video clips. They also seem to return more frequently, though only for a few seconds. This leads me to believe that people take in small chunks of info on a variety of auction pages, and then they revisit those pages to compare, clarify and seek unanswered questions.

In some cases, I find people will revisit the same auction page every 10-20 mins then on the 4th or 5th visit they either “watch” the listing or “purchase”, why this happens is beyond me?

With this info in mind I’m having to completely change all of my listings 1 by 1 depending on the stats. For example, if the item does what is says on the tin and is fairly basic, people generally don’t need to seek further info, whereas if you’re in a extremely competitive niche they seem to view a considerable amount more auctions and then return for clarification on something.

Stay tuned, since I’m in the process of writing a free short report on tracking your visitors and what you can do with the info!

Your views are welcome!
