Let’s cut to the chase and tell you how to find the best things to sell on eBay.

1. Head over to eBay pulse. This delivers a snapshot of the eBay marketplace. eBay Pulse features top 10 popular searches, popular stores, popular products and those with highest price.

2. You’ll be presented with the “popular searches” on the left hand side. The top 10 in the UK is currently: U K, cars, UK, next, mobile phones, laptop, river island, wii games, topshop and xbox 360 games.

3. This list is OK, but far too generic. Click on the category drop down list, let’s choose “Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles”. We’re presented with this list:

1. left hand drive lhd

2. cars

3. spares or repair

4. classic cars

5. mini

6. bmw

7. mercedes

8. range rover

9. vans

10. vauxhall corsa

Ebay Selling Tips

Notice what’s a position number 10 “Vauxhall Corsa”. You could do a search for cheap “Vauxhall Corsa’s” in your area, buy low and then place on eBay to sell high. Note: Best time to finish a car auction is Sunday afternoon, giving the buyer enough time to collect.

Unfortunately, 99% of people that read this article won’t follow this simple but effective strategy, which is a shame. Let’s hope you’ll be a little more daring! Find out how you can dominate markets and align yourself with other Powersellers on eBay by using some easy to use Internet marketing tools.

Starting out

Tons of eBay sellers start out by selling clutter from their homes, and for an excellent reason. Chances are that by selling these items online, you’ll most probably get more money than you would have at a garage or jumble sale. I’m sure you have tons of stuff that you’ll never use or that your really don’t need anymore, laying around accumulating dust. Why not give our easy way to make money on eBay – uncover hot niche items guide a try to see how many worthless items you can get rid of.

Afraid to try something new?

Are you afraid to try something new in the form of parting with something you already own? Then it would be recommended that you start with products you know and have experience with.

It’s important that whatever the item may be that it demonstrate market demand or else it will just be a waste of time and effort. Steer clear from only selling things you like, or that which are trendy, high fashion or cool. If profit is your goal, then you need to sell items other people will like and result in a purchase.

Have a look what’s on offer
Before you think about selling a specific item, it would be best do an eBay search to see if that product or similar ones are on offer. I like to try eBay Pulse first before I do anything else. A saturated market will result in to much competition. While on the other hand, if no one else is offering the product for sale, you need to find out whether its because no one else has thought of it, or if it’s just not a popular product.

Issues to think over
Whether you have a specific product or product line in mind or if you are still trying to come up with ideas in terms of uncovering hot niche items, a couple of issues need to be considered including but not limited to:

Price

What will the price of the item be?
Cost compromises of a lot more that the price on the item. Will you need to borrow the money or do you have the cash to obtain inventory items?
Will there be additional expenses in the form of shipping or repairs?

Storage
Do you have adequate storage facilities for the items while you wait for sale?

Shipment
What will exact shipment as well as associated costs for the item in question be once its sold?
Is it fragile, an unusual shaped or particularly heavy?
These are factors that make shipping a little more difficult as well as expensive.

Product life cycle
How long will the expected demand for the item to continue? The majority of high-tech items are at a higher risk of having a short life cycle because of technology changes and advances. Profits can easily be maximized if proper attention is paid to product life cycles.

Season
The time of year plays an important role in your eBay listing. For example warm clothing will not sell during warm months such as Summer and Spring. Should you have storage facilities, good profit can be made with off-season item investments.

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert_bio=Des_Drec]Des Drec

Making a money on eBay is easy. However, making a living on eBay is extremely difficult and it’s going to take some time and patience to learn the correct strategies, what to sell and when to sell it.

Instead of following the crowd and trying to sell the sexy items such as electronics. You know, iPods, and Xbox 360’s. You really need to do some research to find out other niche ideas available in the marketplace. Believe it or not, there’s some gems out there that simply need to be discovered.

4 Simple Steps To Follow

1. Go to eBay pulse to find out what’s hot and already selling well on eBay. Delve and drill down into each category to find a niche item that doesn’t sell in spades but where the customers buying them already have there credit cards out.

2. To find out if they have their credit cards out. Click on one of the categories and click a link on the left hand panel marked “completed listings”. You’ll need to be signed into eBay to use this function.

3. Once your results come up. Anything sold will listed with a green price and anything that didn’t sell will be marked with a red price. Obviously if you see a lot of green prices, you can rest assured this is a great niche market where you’ve also got a decent amount of buyers.

4. At this point decide whether or not you want to enter this market. if you do, then the next step is to purchase this items from one of the sellers that sells quite a lot of this particular item.

The Reverse Reconnaissance Method

The purpose of purchasing one of these items is a system I like to call “the reverse reconnaissance method”. In essence you’re trying to find out which delivery company was used, how and what it was packaged in. Make notes of where the item came from. The information is Intel gold. If the sellers been lazy they won’t even bother to repack this item into other packaging. They’ll more likely ship it in its original packaging.

Why Reinvent The Wheel?

You can now use this information to obtain your products from the same place, use the same delivery company etc etc. This seller would have tested everything from the best wholesale source of this product to the most efficient delivery company to use. Why reinvent the wheel?

Why am I giving away a free ebook about ebay listings?

In life, I find it’s not all about take, take, take. Sometimes you’ve got to give a little back.

Am I mad? maybe.

Am I a caring soul? Probably not.

Do I want the competition to know all my secret little ebay tactics? Not really.

I suppose most people that read stuff like this on blog posts don’t even get round to implementing half the stuff they read. Take me for example. I’m halfway through 4 eBooks and 2 study courses. Kind of embarassing really

Just a quick post today and not even ebay or internet marketing related. I went to Blockbuster film rentals today to pick up the popular film 10,000bc (bearing in mind it came out in the uk on general release yesterday) and guess what? They didn’t have any. Not a problem I thought, “I’ll check back later to see if you’ve had any returned”. The lady behind the counter replied:

“Erm, no, we should be getting some more in on Friday, we’ve had to recall those that have been rented since we got sent the wrong batch last week”

Now is it me, or does that sound a bit fishy to you? I mean this is surely unheard of in blockbuster history, since you know the phrase “most money is made within the 1st 7 days of launch”.

I must admit, this has got to ring alarm bells somewhere and with Blockbuster losing out on getting this great film out and distributed in the first 7 days!

They announced today that they’re gonna pull out of the Circuit City Deal in which my nine year old neice could have told them that would have been the dumbest move in history. Not only are Circuit City struggling with the outmoded and outdated technology high street model, they wanted to pay over a billion for it.

With the emergence for Apple TV and Netflix (now offering down-loadable films) stealing a competitive march on Blockbuster by a country mile, is this the beginning of the end for blockbuster stores. My appologies Blockbuster employees but “jump like rats of a sinking ship” springs to mind.

At the E3 convention in Los Angeles, Microsoft announced that this fall 10,000 Netflix movie and television titles will be available to stream via the Xbox 360. Hmm, forward thinking or simple common sense joint venturing?

As usual, your comments are always welcome.

DesDrec.

P.s. I like Blockbuster and would love to continue renting films, but with the withdrawal of one of the main blockbusters (excuse the pun), this is really worrying times for this mammoth conglomerate.

I haven’t posted anything on here recently. My apologies. I’ve been busy behind the scenes putting my eBay and Internet marketing business at the forefront of my business. I’ve mentioned in previous posts and ebooks that I’ve written that I started to take this business a lot more seriously when it started to outstrip the earnings from my offline cleaning business (I was gobsmacked) and yep it got my attention.

Wake Up Call

So many people (and I was no different) play around with eBay selling and Internet marketing without making a dedicated effort to try and make it work. I truly believe that what you put in you get out. This was basically my wake up call at the turn of the year.

Employees

What Am I Doing Differently?

I’ve started to analyse every aspect of business from the customer service issues to delivery times and decided to out source all of the jobs I hate doing so that I can concentrate on the jobs I love (which is writing).

If you’re interested in eBay selling or Internet marketing, i suppose you need to ask yourself a question

“Do I Really Want This To Work”

If you do, it’s gonna take a lot of work and a lot of sleepless nights to have a well tuned, highly efficient business. I’m nowhere near where I need to be and I suppose I’m quite fortunate to be able to spend quite a lot of hours on the business. It’s not come easy and don’t believe the hype, it’s gonna take some serious work.

Be Prepared

Be prepared to stay up, do your research and work out a plan of action for your business, cause if you don’t you never will.

I recently read an ebook and video course by Caroline Middlebrook (who I’ve got a lot of time for) about Stumbleupon called Stumblerush. If you’ve never heard of Caroline before, Caroline basically quit her day job in order to follow her dreams of becoming an Internet entrepreneur. Now what inspired me, wasn’t the actual contents of the course (which was fantastic I might say), it was the writing style and the down to earth approach. Caroline is also an inspiration of somebody that sat down one day, constructed a plan and has now put it into action. I must admit, I’m not one for following all of those big name gurus, it’s people like Caroline that give true inspiration and have given me the inspiration to really push myself in the business!

I decided a few months back that I needed and wanted to be a powerseller on ebay. I studied the criteria and anaylsed what I needed to do and broke it down into lots of bite sized chunks. I’ve concluded that to be successful on eBay needs excellent customer service, attention to detail, super fast delivery and a well packaged item. You’ve probably heard all of this before, but trust me it works. I’m not saying I’m the best out there, I’m just saying that this methodology works a treat and I intend applying the same practice to all elements of my business.

I’ve also started to interact more with my clients. By interacting I mean responding to comments left and finding out what they thought about the product. Basically a human being behind the ebay id. What’s happended are the comments are a lot more detailed and are true to what people actually think. This type of PR is huge.

In my last message to my client I also ask them if everything was Ok? and if it’s not to contact me asap. Seems to be working (I’ll probably get a lot of negative feedback after this post

Are you struggling to get things going and just need that kick up the backside to get things going. your comments are always welcome.

It’s bad enough doing one launch, but to do two simultaneously is damn right mad. I must have lost my marbles!

Anyway, the point I’m getting at is that Internet marketing is hard work and definitely not get rich quick. Not only do you have to learn your craft while not trying to purchase the gazillion offers that drop into your inbox. You’ve also got to coordinate with freelancers in other countries, graphic designers that think they’re always right and software that doesn’t always want to play ball.

I truly believe that if you stick at and become resilient in your quest it’s possible to at least give up the day job.

Since these are going to be my first product launches I’m making sure every box is ticked and that I haven’t left anything out (not easy). I suppose the best bet is to give them a dry run which i intend to do in the following weeks.

I tell you what though. I’m loving every part of the process which I think is important in whatever venture you embark on.

I’ll keep you posted on my progress, and feel free to let me know how you’re getting on with your products and the troubles you’ve faced so far.

Good luck.

Just a short post today since it’s now 2am and I’ve been working on various projects for 12 hours straight and really need to hit the sack!

Being the type of bod that’s anal about statistics (sad I know). I came across a really interesting statistic that I’d like to share.

I’ve been doing some testing on ebay auction pages with:

long sales page vs short sales page vs short sales page with video

Here are my results:

1. People tended to stay on my page a lot longer when there was a video clip embed. No huge surprise there then. What is interesting though is that the people that bought watched the whole video and the vast majority of browsers watched anywhere between 20-40 seconds in. Hence short clips are better in the long run. I’m also toying with the idea of keeping the clips silient as a lot of people are viewing at lunch time/15mins before they finish and don’t appreciate voice commentary blasting over the speakers.

2. Short sales page – If the item for sale is fairly basic and self explanatory, people tend to purchase the item faster and stay on the page anywhere from 10-40 seconds. No point in writing a long sales page, with attention spans running at an all time low, why bother.

3. Long sales page – If the item for sale is fairly unique or new onto the market then people tend to read the whole page and stay on the page for around 30 seconds. They also seem to return more frequently, in some cases 7 or 8 times. SCARY!

Putting everything aside, what I found most interesting was the amount of market researchers (competition) that looked at my auction pages and the amount of times they came back. On average they visited an auction page about 4 times which really blew my mind. I mean I don’t mind the visits, heck I do alot of research myself, but 4 times is pushing it a bit.

So when you see several hits on your hit counter, you can bet your bottom dollar that the majority of the hits have come from your competition, not just once, but several times. I suppose what I find really odd is why they need to return to the page 4 times in 10 mins? Beleive it or not that’s really common.

One of the biggest things I learnt today was cross promotion. If you can have several auctions that have a similar theme etc, people tend to view and possibly purchase two items from the same category. That said, I’m gonna make the time next week to work on this as sales have shot up by 50%
with the use of cross promotions.

What are your thoughts?

DesDrec.
P.s. My stats are from sellathon

I must admit, this subject has always fascinated me. Like the majority of people out there, my time is short and my attention span even shorter, especially when I have a gazillion things left to do.

“On the average Web page, users have time to read at most 28% of the words during an average visit; 20% is more likely” - Source http://www.useit.com/alertbox/percent-text-read.html

This is quite an interesting statistic and I know it’s true from the stats of my ebay listings.

“Among other things, the authors found that the Back button is now only the 3rd most-used featureBack to become the second-most used feature. The reason for this change is the increased prevalence of applications and feature-rich Web pages that require users to click page buttons to access their functionality on the Web. Clicking hypertext links remains the most-used feature, but clicking buttons (on the page) has now overtaken” - Source http://www.useit.com/alertbox/percent-text-read.html

What I’ve also found is that the time people spend on different listings with lots of text, audio, video, useful info varies a great deal. In fact my most important discovery is that my visitors spend up to three times as long on my auction pages if I provide short video clips. They also seem to return more frequently, though only for a few seconds. This leads me to believe that people take in small chunks of info on a variety of auction pages, and then they revisit those pages to compare, clarify and seek unanswered questions.

In some cases, I find people will revisit the same auction page every 10-20 mins then on the 4th or 5th visit they either “watch” the listing or “purchase”, why this happens is beyond me?

With this info in mind I’m having to completely change all of my listings 1 by 1 depending on the stats. For example, if the item does what is says on the tin and is fairly basic, people generally don’t need to seek further info, whereas if you’re in a extremely competitive niche they seem to view a considerable amount more auctions and then return for clarification on something.

Stay tuned, since I’m in the process of writing a free short report on tracking your visitors and what you can do with the info!

Your views are welcome!
