The 7 Link Challenge….I’m Up For It?

Viral marketing is a sweet tool when you can get it working effectively.

Most of us want it, many of us crave it, but there are very few of use that can actually manage to get it to work on a consistent basis.

I just took a quick trip on over to Alexa. This is an Amazon ranking website that offer great information on website demographics and basic stats. Here’s their “Top 10 Ranked Sites” in order of rankings.

1. Google.com

2. Facebook.com

3.  Youtube

4. Yahoo

5. Baidu.com

6. Wikipedia

7. Blogspot

8. Windows Live

9. Twitter

10. Amazon

I suppose we ask ourselves daily (well I do). How the hell can we get our content to go viral over these networks on a consistent and trackable basis? Answer, with great difficulty.

However, once in a while, the opportunity to partake in an event that’s unique and ticks most of the viral boxes presents itself and you just can’t refuse a great opportunity.

You’re probably wondering what I’m going on about?

I’m a relatively new reader to Dan Sumner’s blog and find his writing style and marketing perspective akin to my own. Hence the reason why I like to contribute in his discussions.

Dan’s very kindly invited me to a challenge which was initially proposed to him by Randy Smith.

The Challenge

The challenge which is articulately written here is to publish links to 7 posts on my blog, 1 link for each category:

1. Your most beautiful post
2. Your most popular post
3. Your most controversial post
4. Your most helpful post
5. A post whose success surprised you
6. A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deserved
7. The post that you are most proud of

So here goes, warts en all…………

1. Your most beautiful post – I’ve got to admit, I struggled with this first one. I’m very factual in my posts (typical bloke) and I struggled to find anything I deemed beautiful. I’ve chosen this post for the simple fact that I used quite a few images. It probably took me longer to upload and embed the images than write the post he, he.

2. Your most popular postThis is my most popular post to date and I’m actually quite proud of it (wipes a tear from his eye). I think it’s popular because, as internet marketers we’re always looking for the next best thing. The tool that will give us a clear advantage over our peers. I’m a stats man, so I thought it only fitting that I reveal the tools I’m going to be using next year to propel my websites to the top of the serps. It hasn’t had any comments, but it’s the most viewed post this month.

3. Your most controversial postI don’t know whether this post was just stupid mistake or controversial. I’ll let you decide.  It was my first foray into running WSO’s  and I knew the power of the affiliate network that warriorplus provides. However, I didn’t maximise the possibilities available to me and missed the boat. This post just highlighted the sill y mistake I made and hoped to persuade others not to make the same ones :(

4. Your most helpful post – This is an easy one really. I think it’s my most helpful post, because I put a lot of time, energy and thought into this. I wanted it to be sticky and knew at some point it would go viral (maybe on a small-scale). I was a heavy backlinker in the past (weren’t we all) and simply wanted to show readers that there are other avenues of getting traffic back to your site. 25 of them to be exact.

5. A post whose success surprised youWhat’s really weird about this post, is the fact that I didn’t get any comments, but instead got several emails on the way I tested things on my site(s). Strange eh?

I must have received about 10 different emails of questions regarding testing, but no one dared ask in the comments section. I suppose the fact that people were asking for my advice was a small success for me personally.

6. A post you feel didn’t get the attention it deservedI could have used the previous post, but that would be a bit lazy really. So I’ve chosen this one. I thought I’d get a larger response than I did (maybe I will in time). I saw a similar thread on a forum that got a massive response and thought this would do the same. I suppose, unless you’re searching for this sort of post on my blog or online, you could probably miss it.

7. The post that you are most proud ofI did this post last week, and it will hopefully be one of many. I’m doing a new video every friday and I’m basically forcing myself to do more videos and eventually more presentations to the camera. With each BS Friday I give tips and advice on internet marketing, I also reveal some of the tools and websites I use for my promotions.

I made a lot of mistakes in the video, was really nervous, produced an intro that was too LOUD etc etc etc. However, I’m a firm believer that to grow your business and take it to the next level you need to be different and step out of your comfort zone. My next scary episode will be later on this afternoon after I’ve done the chores written down for me by the missus this morning ;) One of them was cleaning the bathroom. Yay!

Well that’s it. That’s my final 7. I’d like to nominate:

Danielle Lynn

Peggy Baron

Dee Dawber

James Penn

Nick Stewart

I’d like to thank Dan for the invite. It was kinda fun doing that list.

It’s given me lots of ideas for new blog posts and I’ve enjoyed reading everyone else’s

I hope you enjoyed the post and you’re more than welcome to get social or leave any nice comments:)

I’ve been over some of your posts and left comments but i’ll have to come back for the rest. it’s Friday and i need to get some work done before i can even think about the weekend :)

This is the 2nd 7 link challenge post I’ve been on today and time flies when reading :)

You’ve got some great content here Des and I know that plenty of us will learn from your experiences, both good and bad.

It’s good to know that you also had fun with the challenge. I loved it myself, going over my older posts really allowed me to see the journey I have been on over the last couple of years.

Great stuff mate, catch up soon.

    Take care, Barry

Yeah, it takes up quite a bit of time reading these challenges doesn’t it? I enjoyed reading yours though. I can see that you put a lot of time and effort into it.

    Hi Des,

Glad to see someone else accepting this challenge and sharing with us the posts you wanted more recognition.

I’m like Barry, it’s Friday and I’m behind on some things so I’ll have to come back to read some of your other posts.   This is actually my first visit to your blog and I must admit, I like the look.  I like simple, easy and clean myself.  Great job! Thanks for sharing these and I’ll see you again soon.  Have a good weekend.

    Hi Des,

Great to see you taking part in the challenge :)

And judging by some of the comments already – it would seem to be working well in terms of making some great new friends :)
