10 Email Marketing Alternatives To The Aweber Autoresponder 2012

I’ll be honest with you here.

I have absolutely no problems with Aweber and I use it daily. However, there are other options out there in the marketplace you may or may not be aware of.

We’ll first have a look at Aweber first and then get into the other autoresponders out there.

Aweber is probably the most popular autoresponder used by all types of marketers. In fact, it’s the number
1 choice for Internet marketers.

Nine times out of ten, if a marketer makes monthly payments for a service, you’re guaranteed
that Aweber will be at the top of the list.

Here’s a list of the features:

* Create Powerful Bulk Email Lists
* RSS to Email option
* Advanced autoresponder options
* Integration with lots of other scripts including e-commerce shopping carts
Traffic-tracking and conversion options
Advanced sign-up form wizard and hundreds of sign-up form templates to choose from

Tip 1 – Resend To Unopened Respondents

One great little feature that’s a little under-used with marketers is the ability
to track which of your subscribers open the email to those that didn’t. You can then
send a similar email out again (probably best to edit the title a little) and see
if they open that email. Since doing this, my open and view stats have gone through the roof.

Tip 2 – Turn Customers into Subscribers

Aweber have added a great new feature to the AWeber WordPress plugin: you can now add
people who leave comments on your posts to your mailing list.

You can also now add your PayPal customers directly to the mailing list of your choice.

This is powerful stuff and I can see this getting used by everyone.

These great new features mean you can add people who buy different products to different lists.

This means you can send:

* A series of emails showing customers how to use and get the most value out of the product.
* Upsells for products related to the one they purchased.
* For digital product buyers, a link to download their purchase.
* A paid subscription newsletter using PayPal’s subscription payments.

Great new feature just launched in Aweber

I won’t be installing it into all of my blogs (for example: DesDrec.com), but I have other
blogs that would suit this feature perfectly.

The pricing for Aweber starts at $19 and you can get the ball rolling with a $1 free trial.

Subscribers      Monthly Price
0 – 500      $19
501 – 2,500      $29
2,501 – 5,000      $49
5,001 – 10,000      $69
10,001 – 25,000  $149

Ok, let’s get on with the list:

1. MailChimp (Free)

This is a free autoresponder service which means, if you’re on a tight budget,
there’s no excuse not to get your business started.

This little beauty is a brilliant email marketing package that offers every feature
in the book. You can be up and running with your 1st campaign within minutes.

I’ll admit, I’ve never used this service before, I just opted
straight for Aweber, but if you want to test the waters, Mailchimp is a great
little option.

Now, when I said it was free earlier, I mean free for your first 500 subscribers. You’ll then have to pay
$15 from subscriber 501.Still a cool alternative in my book.

Features:

Impressive sign-up form wizard
Social Media Integration
User-friendly member area
Easy to use autoresponse system
MailChimp for iPhone

Very similar pricing to Aweber

2. Constant Contact (Paid)

Is an email marketing service that lists social media integration as high
on its list of features.

Add-ins such as images, video links, blog content, an event calendar and survey link
are simply outstanding.

My only bugbear is the fact that there’s an additional monthly fee to send surveys,
and there aren’t reporting options for conversion tracking or Google Analytics. Apart
from that, it ticks all the boxes.

Ok, the features:

It has good import features for those migrating from another autoresponder service
Has a ton of stylish sign-up boxes to choose from
Super-simple reporting options which are nicely laid out and easy to use
Approximately 50 professional-looking email templates

Pricing:

Subscribers      Monthly Price
0 – 500      $15
501 – 2,500      $30
2,501 – 5,000      $50
5,001 – 10,000      $75
10,001 – 25,000  $150

I’ve got to add; there’s a no risk 60-day trial option which doesn’t require you to enter your
credit card details which is a nice touch. However, I think a service as established as this
will be safe.

3. GetResponse (Paid)

I use GetReponse for other little projects I have on the go and this is probably
my second favourite autoresponder of choice.

It’s probably the most flexible out of all of the autoresponders with a great pricing
structure.

I particularly like the sequencing and scheduling of broadcasts and solicitations.

There’s a nice little tutorial section showing you the tracking and monitoring tools
which are outstanding.

Features:

* Social media integration is good, but not as good as  GetResponse
* Video email marketing
* Good tracking and reporting options
* Over 300 email templates
* The ability to embed surveys
* iPhone application

Pricing:

No problem Zora. It’s not exactly a sexy topic. I suppose not everyone wants to use Aweber. It just gives them a few more options.

    Hi  Des
Not sure adding subscribers because they commented on your posts is exactly ethical. I would like to be free to leave a comment without getting added to a mailing list. I choose whose lists I want to be on.

  4. DesDrec says:

    Hi Dee,

Could you elaborate about being added onto a subscriber list? You don’t need to be entered into a subscriber list to leave a comment.

I’d love for you to pop back and explain. If there’s a problem with the comments section on my blog I’d like to put it right.

I’ve got a feeling you might be talking about the Disqus plugin for comments. I’ll assure you that you don’t get entered into any form of autoresponder by leaving a comment :)

I do have a “subscribe to newsletter” plugin at the bottom of each post, but you don’t need to fill this in if you just need to leave a comment.

    Thanks Dee,

    Des.

      Hi Des
      I didn’t mean your blog.
‘Aweber have added a great new feature to the AWeber WordPress plugin: you can now add people who leave comments on your posts to your mailing list’
      Dee
      Maybe I misunderstood that part.
      Dee

      • DesDrec says:

Ohhhhh, I see. Sorry Dee. completely got the wrong end of the stick.

It’s an interesting new feature Aweber have added. However, I don’t think it’s one I’ll be adopting any time soon.

        No misunderstanding at all.

Thanks for popping by and leaving a comment.

        Have a nice weekend.

        Cheers,

        Des.

Hi Des, you’ve certainly brought a lot of good info to people here.

I have only ever used Aweber so can’t comment on the rest mate. But it’s good for others to know that they have options of using free ones as well as paid, and the prices they’ll pay.

I’ve just had a quick read of the comments and agree that I wouldn’t add blog commenters to a list without asking them to do so.

I know others have done this and are causing a bit of a stink.

Thanks Des, now back to your 7 link post ;)

    Barry

  7. Barry Ranns says:

    Hi Des,
At the moment, because of empty pockets, I use Listwire, it’s free, and has most of the features of the paid for services, with they say no limits. If I had a list of thousands, they may think differently :)

Listwire also has an wordpress plugin for posters to sign up to your newsletter, and there is an options in the settings to have an optin box show, or not.

Now, I have mine set for the optin box to show, giving people a choice. From what I have seen of some of the other plugins, they also have similar options, so perhaps it’s not the fact that it is a bad plugin but perhaps bloggers not being totally aware of the way the plugin works, or perhaps even bloggers who are absolutely aware of how the plugin works.

    • DesDrec says:

I haven’t heard that much of Listwire. I’m glad you’re getting on well with it Barry. yeah, I know what you mean about “empty pockets”. This is the most expensive time of year.Oh well, it is Christmas :)
